The Forge is a Pan-African Socialist hub for culture and politics. We are dedicated to curating and hosting discussions and cultural works that engage in the “Battle of Ideas,” centering hope, community, and the necessary agitation for systemic change. We actively welcome collaborations and collective efforts that advance the cause of internationalist solidarity.
We are the home of Tricontinental Pan-Africa—an inter-movement research institute within the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research—and Inkani Books, whose radical titles are available at our café.
We invite you to visit the Edwin Thabo Mofutsanyana and Josie Mpama Reading Room. We host a wide range of books and welcome donations to our growing collection; if you wish to contribute, please contact us at [email protected]. The reading room honours the legacy of Edwin Thabo Mofutsanyana (1899–1995) and Josie Mpama (1903–1979), both members of the South African Communist Party and dedicated activists in the struggle against apartheid and for socialism.
Our theatre, performance area, and pop-up podcast studio are available for rent. For all inquiries, please write to [email protected].

It is a space for progressive culture, and thinking together, from Pan-African, socialist, feminist and other progressive perspectives. We work closely with a wide range of left organisations, including community groups, social movements and trade unions.
