Patriarchal Violence: A systemic war on our bodies part 3

The relationship between toxic masculinities and patriarchal violence thrives on various forms and systems of control which devalue the lives and labour of women and LGBTQIA+ identifying persons and renders them disposable. In South Africa, this systematic and structural violence has unfortunately and relentlessly permeated various corners of society, including the criminal justice system. This permeation, among other factors, has allowed for the perpetual cycle of gender-based violence. The webinar on toxic masculinities seeks to discuss the implications of these issues as well as the following themes:

  • the relationship between patriarchy, toxic masculinities and violence in South Africa
  • violence against women and LGBTQIA+ identifying persons as a devaluation of their lives and labour
